A note for independent schools

This assessment isn't built for independent schools

Independent schools sit outside the DfE's Good Estate Management for Schools (GEMS) framework and aren't bound by the 10-year estate strategy expectations that apply to maintained schools and academy trusts. Your statutory obligations are different, driven by the Independent School Standards, ISI or Ofsted inspection, and the general regulatory regime around fire, asbestos, accessibility and listed-building consent.

A self-assessment built around GEMS won't give you a meaningful result. Instead, we'd recommend a short consultation so we can tailor an estate review to the standards that actually apply to your school, and to the best-practice benchmarks that bursars, governors and inspectors increasingly expect.
