From School Property Matters to Building Spatial Intelligence
Earlier this year, we took a huge step forward by rebranding from School Property Matters to Building Spatial Intelligence. While educational estates have always been our bread and butter, our work has grown into wider sectors, such as:
We’re still passionate about schools, but we’re also expanding how and where we make an impact, and our new name reflects that bigger, bolder mission.
Alongside the rebrand, we launched a brand-new website (which you’re reading this blog on now!) packed with features to make it easier than ever to connect with us. From browsing our insights to booking free consultations, everything is more user-friendly, and now you have direct access to our sales team’s calendars, meaning you can speak to our experts at a time that suits you.
This year, we also welcomed new faces to the team and opened a brand-new office in Poulton, which is dedicated entirely to our production team. It’s been a year of change, growth, and new opportunities, and we’re just getting started!
Bringing GBESP to Life in the Classroom
This year marked a major milestone for us as we became a key delivery partner across all three GBESP consortia, a national programme driving sustainability, energy efficiency, and data-led decision-making across public estates. Our role is central to the project: we’re digitally scanning over 160 schools and transforming their buildings into detailed BIM models, providing estates leaders with a fully digitised estate that enables smarter planning, stronger sustainability outcomes, and more informed, future-proof decision-making.
But for us, GBESP isn’t just about data models and surveying thousands of square metres, it’s about helping the next generation understand the power of digital estates. That’s why a highlight of our year has been taking this work directly into the classroom.
As part of the project, we delivered immersive VR workshops at Melton Vale Sixth Form and Dudley College of Technology, giving students a hands-on introduction to BIM through real models from real schools.
Working in small teams, students stepped into a virtual school using VR headsets and were tasked with locating their team’s flag within the model.
One team member became the Navigator, using a 2D floor plan to provide directions to the rest of the team. By matching space references across both the plan and the BIM model, the students quickly realised how spatial intelligence, communication, and digital construction tools come together in real-world problem-solving.
We also had the opportunity to chat with Dudley College’s Sustainability Manager and the Mayor of Dudley, discussing sustainability, digital transformation, and the future of tech skills.
Events, Talks, and Going Global
This year had us travelling up and down the country for a packed season of school-estates events — and what a line-up it was! We kicked things off by unveiling our new identity at The Trust Network Conference, complete with a plentiful supply of chocolate oranges. From there, every event brought fresh conversations, new faces, and plenty of big ideas.
At Education Estates, our stand was buzzing: attendees explored reality-capture tools, estate-planning dashboards, and glimpsed just how spatial intelligence can transform school estate management. We joined the “Good Estate Management” panel, where we discussed how integrated digital tools, data-driven workflows and BIM maturity can turn routine surveys into strategic, sustainability-aligned estate planning. To round it off, we ran a drop-in VR session as part of EduFringe, which gave delegates a hands-on taste of how digital estates can be explored and understood virtually.
Going Stateside: R-CON 2025
One of the standout moments of the year was R-CON 2025 in Boise, Idaho, one of the leading international gatherings for reality capture and Scan-to-BIM professionals. This year was extra special, as Jeremy took the stage — a milestone moment after years of attending as a loyal fan.
Jeremy’s session, “Scan-to-BIM at Scale: Prioritising Metadata Over Geometry for FM & Thermal Analysis”, explored how metadata-driven BIM can be more valuable than highly detailed geometry, supporting facilities management, thermal performance analysis, and scalable workflows across large estates. Attendees had the chance to see practical UK-based insights applied to real-world projects, sparking questions, discussions, and ideas for their own estates.
It was a proud moment for us as a company; sharing our expertise internationally, showing how Scan-to-BIM can be rethought from the ground up, and taking UK BIM knowledge to a global audience.
Looking ahead, in 2026, we’re continuing our US adventures at Geo Week, taking our talks and insights across the Atlantic once again!
Santa Dashing and Dog Shows: A Year of Community Fun
While 2025 has been packed with work, we also made sure to give back to our communities. Our team had a blast taking part in the Santa Dash for Brian House, 
joining over 2,000 others on Blackpool Promenade dressed as Santas to raise money for this fantastic charity.
We also sponsored the Pet Dog Show in Great Harwood, celebrating local talent (both furry and human!) and supporting our community.
We’re excited to continue and expand our charitable involvement next year, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.
2026, Here We Come!
Next year is already shaping up to be bigger, busier, and even more exciting. As mentioned, we’re delighted to be speaking at Geo Week 2025 in Denver, Colorado. We’re also sticking to our roots in many ways, and are thrilled to be speaking at the Education Estates SEND and Sustainability events alongside some of our amazing clients, including Tanya Marley at APT and James Browning at Lift Schools.
But it’s not just about events—we’re also focused on team growth, both in numbers and in skills. Continuous development, upskilling, and learning from each other is a huge part of what makes Building Spatial Intelligence such a strong, forward-thinking team.
With growth, innovation, and fun at the heart of everything we do, we can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store. Here’s to another year of making an impact in our industry!
